WEEE and battery disposal
Battery-powered shears, chainsaw pruners, olive harvesters and tying machines are electrical and electronic equipment: when they stop working they must not go into unsorted waste. Here is what the law requires and how we take back your old tool and used batteries free of charge.
The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol
On tools, batteries and packaging you will find the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol. It means that at the end of its life the product is waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and must be collected separately, as required by Directive 2012/19/EU (Italian Legislative Decree 49/2014). Motors, circuit boards and lithium batteries contain materials that can be recovered and substances that must not end up in the environment: throwing them into unsorted waste is prohibited and subject to fines.
How to dispose of your old tool
- Free one-for-one take-back. When you buy a new tool from us we take back your old tool of the same type, of any brand, free of charge. Write to assistenza@gardenmac.com or call +39 0865 860247 when you order: we arrange collection by the courier when the new tool is delivered, or you can bring it to our warehouse at Via Saccucci 5, 86090 Pesche (IS), Italy, by appointment.
- Municipal collection centre. Every municipality has a recycling centre that accepts household WEEE free of charge: ask your local authority or waste operator for opening hours and conditions.
- Shops with a sales area over 400 m². They must take back small WEEE (up to 25 cm) free of charge even without a purchase.
One-for-one take-back applies to a tool equivalent to the one purchased, for example old electric shears for new shears. If possible remove the battery before handing over the tool and hand it in separately.
Batteries and chargers
The lithium batteries of our tools are portable batteries and accumulators (Directive 2006/66/EC, Italian Legislative Decree 188/2008 and Regulation (EU) 2023/1542) and must be collected separately. You can return them to us free of charge, even without buying anything, at the Pesche warehouse or together with the tool we take back, or drop them in the battery containers found in shops and recycling centres. A swollen, damaged or wet battery must not be shipped: tape the contacts, keep it in a non-flammable container and contact us to arrange collection.
Packaging
Boxes, cases and protective material follow your local separate collection: cardboard with paper, plastic and polystyrene with plastics, as indicated on the packaging. If you return your old tool you can also return its case.
Why it matters
A battery tool recovered the right way gives copper, aluminium, steel and lithium back to new products and keeps hazardous substances out of soil and water. It is the same care we ask every day of those who work the land.
